Sadly, there are a number of animals in the world that are struggling to survive because they cannot find enough food to eat or a safe place to live. Many of these animals are dying and, in some cases, there are very few of them left. They are called ‘endangered animals.’ In New Zealand we have many endangered species, including the kakapo, a shiny green bird that likes to make its nest on the ground. Unfortunately, the nest is really easy to get to and other animals can easily steal the kakapo’s eggs. As a result, very few new kakapo are born. There are 55 kakapos in New Zealand right now.

The New Zealand government is trying to save the kakapo. They are looking for creative ideas. What do you think they could do? On your blog, tell us what you think should be done to save the kakapo. Please be as creative as you can!
So I've already learnt about endangered animals and I did not know that the kakapo is one of them. I think to save these poor kakapo's I think we should do some research to find all kakapo's that are left. When they are all together they should take all those kakapo's that are still left to bulid them a safe buliding in a safe place in the woods. So they can have there baby's inside a secured and safe place.

Day 18: Famous/Infamous animals
It’s time to go to the zoo! You have been invited to tour the national zoo with some students from one of the local schools. Although you don’t really know anyone you decide to be brave and give it a go! When you arrive at the front gates, you walk into the zoo and you immediately see…
Activity 1
Imagine that you have just entered the zoo. On your blog, tell us what you think you might see on your visit. You can start with this sentence:

I had just entered the zoo when, all of a sudden, I saw a zookeeper right in front of my face with creepy look. "What are you doing your are in my way", I say. The zookeeper gave me a dull look and gave me a weird welcoming to the zoo. He gave me 3 options, "Sorry some of our amazing parts of the zoo is really messed up so your 3 option are to go back home which I don't recommend you to do. Wait until the whole messed up thing is done or go through the scariest part of the zoo", The zookeeper said with a freaky voice. But I said nothing and I just took the first option he said. The zookeeper started bragging about coming back inside the zoo out loud. So I just went straight to the scariest part of the just because he was so annoying. As I went through scariest part of the zoo it did not look like what he had explained to me and that was a bummer. So I carried on as I was walking I saw an elephant jumping around in circles, and as they saw me they stopped a looked very scared that was sad I wonder who it was. I felt like someone was touching me so I looked back know one was there. That was strange. So I just carried on. I saw two goats eating happily and the same thing happens. I was staring to get a little scared. Just then I saw one of the animals I fear the lion. I saw to lions who were very scary and just then they looked at me I was just about to run when the same thing happens again. Just then I heard some one laughing then I picked up a stick the turned around and accidentally hit the man with a stick. I looked at him carefully and it was the zookeeper! I said, "Sorry". Then the zookeeper said, "Oh no I'm sorry I was trying to make this scary. This is big time.
The End

Aim for a blog post of 8 - 10 sentences in length. You can do it!
Activity 2
When you are at the zoo, you have the chance to learn about some animals that are specifically found in your country. They are called ‘indigenous’ animals. This means that they are originally from your country. Use Google to identify two indigenous animals from your country. On your blog, post a picture of the animals and tell us a bit about them. What are they called? Where do they live? What do they eat?
The Koala & The Kangaroo

What are they called: These animals are called the Koala and the Kangaroo

Where do they live: These animals both live in Australia

What do they eat: The koala eats Eucalyptus leaves and the kangaroo is a herbivore so they eat stuff like grasses, flowers, leaves, ferns, moss and even insects.

Take a picture of yourself standing beside a popular place in your community. It can be anywhere that’s pretty popular in your area (e.g. a store, a restaurant, a marae, etc). On your blog please tell us about the landmark. What is the name of it? Where is it? Who goes to it?

Unfortunately I could not find a photo of me at a popular place in the community. But since that was a bummer I will still just give a photo of the place that is really popular in my community which is Mt Wellington.

Photo:

What is the name of it: Mt Wellington
Where is it located: Mt Wellington is located in the center of the suburbs of Stonefields, Tamaki, Panmure, Penrose, and Ellerslie, and by the Tamaki River.
Who goes there: My family only really goes there for fun and for some exercise.

Activity 1

On your blog tell us which of the icons you would most like to visit in your chosen country. Be sure to tell us why you have chosen it!
Where would you like to visit: I would like to visit the Sydney Opera House.
Why: I would like to visit the Sydney Opera House because it looks very unique and it very attractive to go to. I would also like to go there because it is near the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it goes very well next to it.
Activity 2
Let’s imagine that you have been asked to host a visitor from another country. They are going to come and stay with you for three days. During that time, you are expected to take them on a tour of New Zealand and show them some our most famous icons. Where would you take them? If it was me, I might take them to Mt Cook in the south island, to the Sky Tower in Auckland and to Chums Beach in the Coromandel. What about you? On your blog, tell us which three famous places in New Zealand you would go with your visitor.
If I was to host a visitor from another country these are the places I will take that person to:
1. Sky tower

2. Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium

3. Te papa Museum

In New Zealand our national holiday is on 6 February. It is called Waitangi Day. What do you do to celebrate Waitangi Day? Do you go somewhere special? On your blog tell us what you do on that day.
Waitangi day:
To be really honest I don't really Waitangi day with my family. We just think it's just a normal. But sometimes we celebrate it by just chilling and relaxing. If my family celebrated Waitingi day I think that we would've had a big feed with the whole family and then at night we can just do some booming fireworks. But for other people Waitaingi day is a day to remember when they had signed the treaty for the English to reside in NZ. So now these English people are called kiwis just like us.

In New Zealand we have many museum and galleries. One of the largest is called the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa or ‘Te Papa’ for short. Inside Te Papa there is a huge exhibition called ‘Gallipoli - The Scale of our War.’ It has information about a special battle, the Battle of Gallipoli, that took place during World War I. Many New Zealanders took part and many lost their lives.

The battle started on 25 April 1915. We commemorate this battle every year by celebrating Anzac Day on 25 April. Visit the Gallipoli website. It will give you lots of information about this famous battle. On your blog, tell us three things that you learned about the battle.

Here are 3 things that I've learnt about the battle:

1. Anzac stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.
2. Anzac day is on the 25th of April when the battle started.
3. On Anzac day some people were a red poppies to remember those who lost there lives in the terrifying battle.

Here's a little story ( TRUE STORY ):

Did you know when the war was finish and some people died. Well one person who died and was so filthy and dirty go sent back to his family. As he was sent back home his family did not recognize him because he was all filthy and dirty. So then he was a unknown man who was in the war. As he was buried the cross said unknown but to god!

Day 15 – Art History
It’s the final day of Week 3 and you are feeling more and more comfortable in the country. You decide that you would now like to learn a bit more about the people and the history of your country so you spend the day exploring the art galleries and museums. There are so many different options to choose from! You decide to start with the local art gallery before moving on to see the national history museum.
Activity 1
When you walk into the local gallery, the first piece of artwork that you see is a painting by Wassily Kandinsky called ‘Swinging.’
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Swinging by Wassily.jpg
http://www.wassilykandinsky.net/work-251.php
While you are looking at it, a staff member at the gallery comes up to you and asks you for your opinion of the painting. What do you think of it?
On your blog please tell us:
  1. What do you think of this painting? Do you like it?
  2. If you could buy it and give it to someone, who would you choose?

If it was me, I would give it to my sister because she really likes bright, bold colours and abstract pictures.
Description: I think that this painting is amazing whoever made this shout out to that person. If there was a meaning to this painting I would really like to know about it. I feel like if I keep looking at the painting I'll get the meaning of it. I really like is bright colours and the shapes that the person has made for the painting. I I could buy this painting and give it to someone I would give it to my mum. My mum loves bright stuff because my grandma ( My mums mum) used to draw painting like flowers and my mum would keep them.
Activity 2
After exploring the gallery you decide to walk across the street to the national museum. It is an amazing place! There is so much information about the history of the country in this museum. It’s hard to know where to start!
After walking for a little while you come across a display with pictures of children that were taken in 1901 (over 100 years ago)! In this picture, the children are working on a local farm, milking cows. They are not going to school. Back in those days, children usually went to school until they reached the age of 12 or 13. They then left school and went to work. Imagine that you were alive 100 years ago. How would you feel if you had to leave school at the age of 12? Would you be happy or sad? On your blog, tell us how you would feel.
If I had to stop school at the age of 12 or 13 I'll be very sad. Because I love learning about new thing, and as they say your not to old to learn something new. That is so right. So of course because when you learn more and more you keep developing more knowledge. What my maths teacher say if your confused is good because you can learn something new, and if your just lazy or day dreaming your not developing more knowledge for yourself. So yea that's all about my feeling.
